This quilt was made using the Vignettes pattern by Heidi Parkes. Each block is the result of a prompt around an element or principal of design (line, color, juxtaposition, recontextualization etc). I chose to also have each block represent some aspect of my relationship with my mom- a celebration. This was made a little past the one year anniversary of her death and was a very healing process.

Some highlights include the embroidered portrait of her that I made several years ago. It is based off a photograph of her at the Rocky Mountain Folks Festival in Lyons, CO. It remained on a scrap of fabric for many years and has now found a home.

Another favorite block of mine is the list of items. It is a list my mom wrote out- copied and stitched in her handwriting- when hospice prompted her to reflect on what she most loved doing. I found this list after she passed away and felt it was so true and representative of how she led her life and what she valued.
